This thread will be about my dobe Rico and our life together :D

Rico used to be my big brother's dog, but due to various circumstances I adopted him permanently a few weeks ago.
He has always spent most of the time with me anyway. He's 10 years old now.
I started working properly with him around September last year, when I started working for a dog kennel/school that also works with search dogs.
We have had great progress so far(who says you can't learn an old dog new tricks?! :cheeky: ). His starting point was pulling at a leash constantly, being barky at kids/cats/dogs etc.

We went for a walk in a new place yesterday to work a bit on not reacting to kids/dogs/cats.
Here's a few videos and pictures.

His old reaction would be pulling like a lunatic and barking, or chasing the cat.

And he used to bark at kids too..
Not long after this video he was passed by a 5 ish year old kid by around 1 meter and he sat down watching me instead of reacting in any way(including greeting her)

From other walks etc:

He is convinced he is a tiny little lap dog..

we were at an Easter dinner with pretty much the whole family.. It was noisy, so he needed to be in my lap for a while to get some rest.

Visiting my mothers aunt for the second time in many years.. He fell asleep and didn't even bother to greet OR bark at two strangers that came in

Another walk in a new place(at least with me), also going over a scary bridge(can anyone tell me what those are called?)
I can't wait until he can use the harness again so I don't get the ugly headcollar on pictures!!

I found this quite funny.. Do you notice the dog? Rico didn't :giggle:

The scary bridge. First time with me, and it's years since the last time..

I made him some simple fleece socks, because he hurts his paws a lot..
Then we went out searching for his food(raw food) in the snow :)

He went to the vet on Wedensday for a checkup..
His wounds were fine. His teeth were not..
Thursday he went in to pull one tooth.
Apparently his tooth breaking was from an old injury(or something) nobody has known about(could only be seen on x-ray).
I didn´t speak to the vet directly since I couldn´t pick him up myself.. But the problem was bigger than expected.. He also need to pull another tooth :wallbang: But from what I understand, he has a very good chance of a full recovery after the other tooth is pulled.. So we´re giving him the chance. The only other option would be to have him pts, since the tooth would get severly infected and probably already was really painful..

He´s doing pretty good after his surgery

He's a handsome old man, and deserves to have a loving home in his senior years.

And he should recover just fine after the extractions. After all, we don't euthanize people if they need some teeth out! LOL

That's why he gets the chance
Hopefully he'll recover completely..
Luckily we found out before his insurance went out..
The last extraction alone cost around 1400$

Thank you :) i hope so too.. At least we're doing what we can.. We'll know more on the 17th.. Going in for a checkup and new x-rays

Awww, SQUEE! What a lovely uncut dobie - just love the floppy ears. Hope he feels better soon and can properly enjoy his golden years.
Thanks!
Cropping ears/docking tails are illegal here thankfully.. One of the few laws to protect animals we have and that I agree with :)

Some pics from today..

A Dobie with a tail! So awesome! Sadly here they still dock them :(
That sucks :( I definitely prefer them with a tail.. Even tho I´ve wished he was docked when he wipes down everything from the table
