What a transformation. I hope Adira is feeling better soon. :/ You do such amazing work with these babies. They're so lucky. :)

I'm glad it's not infected. The nose knows!
Is she feeling better again and on the upswing?

It sure looks nasty this morning, the swelling seems to have gone down, but it looks like pus. I am going to go sniff it after she finishes her spring mix salad...let the poor lass enjoy something before I torture her. :undecided:

Very mild smell, going to start her on metro, and decide what type of flushes/soaks to do. The leg isn't hot, although still swollen, she's eating, drinking, and bright. There is a very light pus smell now. The foot is normal, she's not indicating any real pain, and was just bruxxing on the table a second ago.

Links only on these pics i think though :/

After a little struggle it opened up a wee bit

I thought that spot looked suspicious yesterday, but I second guess myself when you more experienced owners say no... I have to stop doing that. It doesn't look that bad - Hope she gets rid of that soon...:flowers3:

It doesn't look too bad - not really red or lots of exudate. Is it hot? Or normal skin temperature? I would only do compresses. No immersion at this point, it's still too open.
I'm glad she's acting normally. :)

So far I am just flushing with isotonic saline. I put her on my lap with a towel, and then lift her up a little then flush...doesn't stress her in the least :) I did buy betadine last night, but haven't used it yet.

The flush comes out the bottom of the incision as well so its a real pocket in there. It isn't hot and the leg looks "better" now that its opened up a bit. I started her also on the once a day metrodanizole last night just in case.

These are pics from this morning

March 6th after morning flush. There's infection below the initial opening. The pus is adhered to the muscle making me think its dying tissue. It looks a titch better today except that last night I found an internal dissolvable stitch sticking out of her leg and had to trim it...you can still see the end of it below her main opening in her leg. She's very very good about flushing, its pretty non-stress for both of us and I will use this method in the future.

Btw ALL the girls now toddle for the front of the cage when I come by. If I open the door they are all there, but both Adira and Balera would prefer I not touch, and Valene and Triese actually stay around for some gentle strokes now

I'm glad to hear you are winning the ladies over. It's funny how sometimes the rats you have to take care of and medicate or flush or whatever, are the ones who warm up the fastest. I hope the little lady can fight this infection off!

On Thursday morning, after looking at her opening, I called Greenwood to make an appointment, but found out Dr. Munn was out of town until the 24th! The other vet there I wasn't sure would be able to help her, and I didn't know her, so wasn't going to chance Adira on a stranger. Jenny called her vet and got her a 10 am appt, so Thursday night Jenny drove here to pick up Adira and long suffering Triese (its not her fault she's the friendliest one!), and took them back to her place, and then in the morning took them to her vet Dr. G in Kitchener. He assured me that it wasn't actually infection, but fibrous tissue that is granulating (I think that's what he said). We could open up the incision, debride the tissue but he said once he closes it back up, the incision will be tight, she will probably open it up again, so its preferential to leave it. Barring any complications he said it should heal up in a week. *whew*

So last night Adira and Triese came home, and when I took out Adira to flush her leg, she ended up cuddled in my arms, bruxxing and looking up into my face. I kept kissing her and stroking her and this time instead of shoving me away irritably with her paws, she seemed to enjoy it <3

I missed you too A-dear-a!!! <3

It looks like she's been chewing on the muscle, possibly trying to debride the other tissue, so she's now on metacam to her chin-wiping disgust. :p

Awwww, that's so sweet!

That Intrasite sounds perfect to use in this situation. I'll be curious to see how it works. Do you think she'll leave it alone though? Or lick it off?

Keep healing sweetie pie!
