Thank you for taking her in! She really is beautiful.

My first greyhound had been hit by a car, never saw a vet, and then when he became ill a year down the road, the people who owned him dropped him off at a vet clinic (dragging a front leg that had *never*healed after the accident), and never returned. I was in the process of adopting a greyhound at the time (my first one) and I will never forget the organization calling me and asking how open I was to taking a special needs dog. An elderly individual with only three usable legs was not what I had in mind when I first started considering a greyhound, but to this day I cannot tell you how grateful I am that they asked me to take him. For all of his issues, he was an amazing animal and changed not only my life, but influenced a lot of people around me to look differently at dogs and to consider spending the time/money/effort on special needs dogs.

My point is, it is worth it. I know you're looking at her face and are certain of that as well. It really is absolutely worth all of the extra trouble, time, etc. I wish you the best of luck.

Oh it absolutely is worth it!

My neighbor and I were plotting tonight. I bumped into her and he tells me that her friend was coming over and how she'd LOVE to see Pickles. She's had Pit Bulls for 20 yrs and always had 2 but currently is down to 1.

Well guess who went for a visit tonight :)

Her friend just went "You bi$&(!" and then went and smooched Pickles. Guess who's coming back again on Sunday! LOL

She does the goofiest little grin when playing, trying to get a good pic of it

Hard to see in pics just how skinny she is, if I put my hand on her back, my hand is wider than she is.

Pickles is now a raw fed dog.

I've tried 4 different kinds of kibble and 3 different kinds of wet and she's not eating any of it. She's not even eating treats (and I've tried a gazillion) other than dehydrated beef tongue. She ate maybe 1/4 c in the past 48 hours. It doesn't really show up in the pics but she's skin and bones and has no muscle mass.

I spoke to the shelter and they've been having the same issue. The vet and shelter are concerned that she is nutritionally deprived. She clearly is!

From the minute she stepped foot into my apartment, she's been making a B line to my dog's and cat's food bowls and licks and licks and licks them. She is craving raw.

So I got the ok from the shelter to give her raw. I just offered a little bowl and she gobbled it all up. Going to give her frequent small meals to get her body used to the food intake. This is a Pit mix, she should be beefy and muscular, not a dangly skinny stick.

Last night hubby went to Tisol (best local pet store) on his way home from work and brought the little baby a 3 ft bully stick. She loves it! But she also takes breaks so she's very good about it

She left through the whole night with no accident.

And this morning she got to meet Otto and is in love!

Double trouble

Nomnomnom! (She's actually just licking him LOL)

Must be love!

Aaaahhh! That's the spot! (Enjoying a break from cone/good scratch)

She's had 4 or 5 small raw meals now and she just loves it to the point where she tries to crawl into my fridge because she knows that's where it's kept.

She is so smart, so eager to please... makes having a puppy easy!

Could I by any chance bother you for a higher-res version of this picture to make it the background on my computer?
