I would assume the other litter is more of a risk than these are. Momma has been on meds since her babies were 16 days old. So i am guessing that they are safer than the other. By now I would assume the virus has shed its way out since we got hit so hard and fast in that first 10 days it only stays in their body for a week. Everything from here on out will be a precaution just to be safe. I honestly dont expect any problems from the first litter or the second. The first litter is fine they get zithro once a day and the other babies have had the meds in their system since momma was on it. The other babies are doing well. Happy and play fighting this morning. I just have to figure out where to put another litter at now. I honestly have no clue. Babies have to be alone so I dont have many options but I have a few weeks to work on that. I should be able to introduce timmy to the other litter in a few weeks so that will free up one cage part for the "toddler" weeks but then after I have to be able to split them up the other babies will be 10 weeks old so I wont be able to put them together.

here is a picture from this morning. They are chunky already. I guess the extra bake time helps :)

Well, at least there is only 9 [emoji6] ! That poor momma no wonder she was cranky ... just how many rats are letting you live in their house? [emoji1] Glad they are all doing better.

Considering this month I am still in shock over what has all occurred. I just cannot believe we have been through this all and we survived mostly. All the rats are back to normal the only sneezers are the ones we have previously. Only 3 appear to have faster breathing but maybe in time that will heal as well. My rick pulled through and my brain pulled through and they were my oldest worst looking rats.

I cannot believe we have a rat that had back to back litters. I am just in shock over it. I cannot believe how their bodies can do this. I mean she was pregnant for 2 whole weeks longer than she should of been. These babies came out with body fat where the other litter had skin and bones on some when I picked them up. I am sure mommas diet was by far better this time around than it was with the first litter.

They are well fed some of the biggest milk bands I have ever seen. Huge on all of them. You can see the little chunks have little rolls already. Hopefully they develop ok from here on out. Momma is a good momma so I know she will do them right.

They are taking over the bills, I am making them all get acting jobs so they can support me now. and I cannot even SPEAK the number outloud let alone type it. They have multiplied by 22 in 5 weeks due to these babies, we lost 11, so honestly I will have to do a head count again LOL I dont count most of the time, I know how many is in each group so I can make sure they are not crowded in the cages but I rarely add them up :) We will be getting another cage for babies I am thinking. I dont have enough room for this second litter. I was not expecting it even though with my luck I should of been

Oh dear, poor momma! I'm sure she must be ready to pull her hair out by now! I'm so glad this is her last litter. The babies look amazing! You must be giving her a great diet for her to nurse the first bunch while this bunch was growing in her belly.

Those are the biggest babies I have ever seen. Big pudgey bellies and nice big milk bands. I don't doubt that it has a lot to do with Momma being healthier!
At least you have her now or otherwise she'd likely already be pregnant again.

Wow such big chunky babies! Mama is one awesome rattie. (;

Hehe, maybe you can harness the energy the ratties produce when they run on wheels... use that to pay for their share of rent. XP

Myhusband would totally try that he wants some free engery like the solar panels LOL he would be in heaven if he could.

I was in denial but she had lab blocks and oxbow to eat so that as that seemed to help. We feed them pasta and rice which she had and some fresh veggies but we didnt do overkill I kept hoping she wasnt pregnant. The first 3 weeks she was still so thin I could feel her ribs but she feel a little thicker now although you can tell the babies take a lot out of her. She is a good momma but a biter when pregnant and when they babies are new. I feel so bad she had two litters I couldnt spay her while nursing though.

No more for her. This poor momma is wore out. You can tell she is tired LOL but she doesnt stop, she just stands over those little ones and feeds them, keeps them hidden from me and does her thing.

We got these boys right before the virus hit. Two of the 5 were very ill. They have pulled through and are fine now. Patch is one of them this first picture is of the day I picked them up. They were all thin enough you can feel their bones in their spines, ribs and tails. Patch barely had any fur now he has a lot more fur and body weight.

He also has the biggest set of balls I have ever seen. Sad to report they will be removed. They came in as 5 together, but they have been split up into 5 single boys. So I have to have ALL 5 neutered I cannot have them taking up all that space.

So many hooded babies!! Beautiful little ones though :) Something I have been wondering for awhile now...are each marking unique to each rat (hooded rats specifically)? Have you ever run into two hooded rats with the same markings?

WE havent and they are all so different. These litters are mismarked barebacks and black hooded babies. Momma is a black hooded and daddy is a mismarked bareback boy. Each is different. Their spots on the mismarked will be in a different place or they wont have one at all, their striped on the hooded can vary greatly. I love hooded/barebacks they make it easier to tell with their markings. when you have a bunch of burks or himi's it makes it harder to tell them apart early on but with these guys it is so easy.

I rescued momma Petunia and her seven babies a few years ago - it was quite difficult to tell them apart but there were subtle differences in their patterns. I also had a rescue Jazzy who had ten babies - five were PEWs, four of which were boys. Now THAT's hard! LOL

The babies look wonderful
Patch is in great shape but his fur is so funny! Is he really soft?

He is really soft. I dont know if he is an actual patchwork or a rex that lost his hair. We had a patchwork girl but she didt have this much hair. Remy the naked was like he is, jjust a bit of hair.

In this side view he looks just like a nakie.... Can I have him???

See, he has a nakie look to him....

except he has hair... LOL so he isnt a naked all standard ears look that way if you shave them :) he is probablya patchwork and a total prick too. Not a nice boy at all. I cant wait to get them neutered.....all 5 are jerkfaces.
