Hi all. I covered things briefly before. Essentially After my male rat died from mycoplasma, ongoing. My older male rat Caius was left by his own. I got him another companion, Remy rat. Of course, they have been together now for nearly 5-6 months. They have their occasional tiffs. However, my older rat tended to be bossy of the other rat. All for good parts they leave each other alone. Sometimes sleeping together, sometimes bossing each other around. My older rat is around 15 months old now. His other partner rat is around 7-8 months old. Recently the younger rat Remy has become the bossy one and wont leave my older rat alone. My older rat now takes the submissive position, while the younger buck does the siding move when he tries to shove my older rat from the side. My older rat squeaks like crazy, but remains submissive. Which is unlike him. There has been no blood or bite marks, but a couple of rat balls and fur flying. Not bites or injuries. It's like the hierarchy is changing in the cage. When before my older rat used to be the boss. The issue is, that my older rat hides all the time. And at the slightest noise, that he hears coming from the other rat. he runs and hides. Its like my younger rat one minute wants to curl up with the older rat and sleep and then the next moment be aggressive towards my older rat. This behaviour has escalated the last 2 weeks. I am thinking neuter may solve the issues with the younger buck. For now, i have separated them. As i have a savic royale cage. Im hoping my older rat now feels or will feel safe come. its a shame as things were going wel before
