So my partner and I went to the petstore to pick up a few things and we saw this poor little girl hiding from the other rats in the feeder rat tank.
Turns out she was a pet that was turned in (they said the owner couldn't keep her because they were moving, she also had a litter of babies shortly after she was dropped off), poor coddled pet couldn't hold her own against the "wild" feeder rats.
We just couldn't see her shivering and bleeding and not do anything about it, the store workers gave us a discount on her because she was "damaged goods".
She's got Dumbo-ish ears and she rocks back and forth, apparently she can't see too well but she's a total love bug and she poses for the camera!

We've named her Sookie.

She's got bites like this all over her tail, we're soaking them with Epsom salt, nothing looks infected but we still plan on having the vet check her out on monday. Once she's healed up and finished her quarentine she'll start introductions to the others.

Poor girl...Glad you have her! Her tail should heal rather fast now that she is cared for.

She's a sweetie.
She's definitely not dumbo. And the swaying is very normal for rats with pink and ruby eyes.

No but she's certainly got interesting ears! And she's gorgeous ^^

Thanks everyone,
I know she's not a Dumbo but her ears certainly don't sit atop her head like my other rats do,
Her tail is already looking better this afternoon but we're still keeping an eye on,
She had a litter of babies a few weeks before we picked her up so we can't tell if she's just got baby pudge left or if she's pregnant again (The store didn't sepparate sexes),
Either way we're well equipped to handle anything she throws our way.

what are feeder rats?? :O you mean to feed to snakes?? :( its illegal where I live to sell live rats or mice for food.. lucky you rescued her! :) she sure is cute

Yeah feeders exactly like that, I don't have anything against it, I own 8 snakes myself but I don't think its right to turn someone's pet into a feeder.

yeah its not right to turn a pet into a feeder, they should have pet rats separate for sale? I don't like the idea that people buy rats in petstores and go out and feed a nicely socialised rat to a snake :( but if they are bred for that purpose and not socialised I understand. but I wouldn't want the little rats I play with and make friendly to be bought as food :(

I totally agree, the "feeder rats" at my local store are practically wild, that's why Sookie got beaten up so bad,
she wasn't hip to the wild rat lingo probably...
