Gay Community Apologizes For Republican Marriage-Crusader's Extra-Marital Affair

A dedicated, family-oriented wholesome Republican woman who happens to be on the front lines saving marriage in the name of God and the sacred tradition of Opposite Sex Reproduction cheats on her husband... how can it not be our fault? I also admit responsibility for this. Just the fact that I live in Canada where gay marriage is fully legalized and recognized must have had such an impact on this poor, poor woman's immortal soul. May God help these poor, strange and confused heterosexuals who fall prey to our evil influence.

It is not the fault of the gay community for ruining her marriage: it is her OWN fault for cheating on her husband. SHE did that, not gay people. I am a hard-core atheist and supporter of gay rights, but if you wanna use the god argument then...well, didn't God give us free will? She didn't have to have an affair, she did it of her own FREE WILL. This is not proof that gay marriage leads to affairs, it is proof that some people are going to have affairs regardless of their beliefs. One of my high school counselors was a married lesbian (not legally, they had had an unofficial ceremony because it's Missouri), and had been so for 29 years with no affairs. Straight people have affairs too, it's not exclusively gay people. Besides that, from the article it sounds like she cheated on her husband with a MAN, so it wasn't even a homosexual affair, so how exactly is it the gays' fault? In my opinion, it looks like she just touts how devout and loyal she is in exchange for votes, but, on the side, she really couldn't care less. She's a Republican, and she has to please her constituents, who are (for the most part) anti-gay. This is, without a doubt, one of the most ridiculous articles against gay marriage that I have ever read. It doesn't even contain a valid argument, it's basically like a little kid saying, "I didn't wanna eat all the cookies, mom, honest! The diabetic kid told me to do it so I didn't have a choice!"

Anywho, sorry for the rant, touchy subject for me...I believe that love is love, and I don't care who you want to give it too, it doesn't mean it's worth any less.

This. I run an LGBTQ+ support blog, and am active in the LGBT community...
She chose to have an affair. No one made her do it. She is the only one who owes anyone an apology.

????
I assume that the aftermath of this affair has caused a great deal of pain to her, her husband, family members, etc
The gay apologies are in bad taste imo
Actually, it makes me angry that people would engage in kicking someone when they are down ....
It doesn't "rub it in", it just makes them look pretty bad and disgusting to do this to someone who is already hurting

I'm going to start making a list of reasons I want to move to Canada...
I think the first official thing will be that gay marriage is legal.
Second will be that, as far as I can tell, most Canadians aren't crazy right wing weirdos. It may just be where I live, but there are too many people here that think that gay people are evil, among other things that make no sense to me.

We're more like far-left wing weirdos, according to the general spectra of politics in America. At least, our Conservatives (aka Canadian Republicans) align sort of with your conservative Democrats - I think if a Republican ever moved up here they'd die of shock.

So yeah, welcome to Canada - we'd love to have you if you ever decide to move here! Healthcare too! (just wait 3 months, but then, you're golden)

I think the sarcastic "apology" is actually quite appropriate.

Amy Koch claims to support traditional marriage. As a Minnesota state senator, she's been working hard to amend the constitution of the state to deny gay people the right to marry. So, one would expect her to lead by example - to show the rest of us her strong and unwavering support for these traditional values. Unfortunately, she's proven to be just another politician who clamours to make rules for the masses while doing whatever the hell she wants herself. No one is kicking her while she's down. She chose to hide in the mud and now she's getting the ridicule she so justly deserves.

Amy Koch reminds me a lot of Newt Gingrich, the speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995-1999 (while Bill Clinton was President). Gingrich is currently vying for the Republican nomination for POTUS (President Of The United States). Like Amy Koch, he supports traditional marriage and imposing a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. Gingrich is currently one of the front-runners for the Republican nomination.

Another unflattering similarity Gingrich shares with Koch is his "do as I say, not as I do" mentality on traditional marriage. Despite claiming to support traditional marriage, Gingrich has been married three times. He cheated on his first wife with the woman who was to become his second wife and reportedly served his first wife with divorce papers while she was in the hospital recovering from uterine cancer. Gingrich then cheated on his second wife with the woman who was to become his third wife while he was seeking to have Bill Clinton impeached for the Monica Lewinsky affair. Gingrich later claimed that he did things that were inappropriate because he felt so passionate about his country and worked too hard.

So, I have no sympathy for politicians, or anyone for that matter, who actively seeks to deny rights to others while refusing to play by the rules themselves.

I have nooo idea if this is a sarcastic joke taken the wrong way, or if it's for serious. *scratches head*

Not only do I think it's appropriate to rub it in, I think it's appropriate to do it as politely as the writer of the letter did. He sarcastically took responsibility. What this really does is make these people and the politician look themselves in the mirror and question the stupid idea that same-sex marriage cheapens or ill-influences the institution of marriage for heterosexual couples.

With the little disrespect actually shown in the letter, the fact that she cheated on her husband of her own choice and given her record and affiliations ("protecting" marriage by equating adultery and same-sex marriage)...I don't see that there's much to say the author went over the line.

I'm sorry I don't even follow politics closely and that got a giggle out of me.

IMO the letter seems horribly sarcastic. I do think that if she is blaming the gay community openly, she deserves that letter, but if it's just salt on an open wound it's a bit redundant.
Stopping others from loving each other, expressing that love, starting families, or killing them for trying to do so is disgusting to me and goes against everything I consider human. Sometimes I look at these people and wonder if they're aliens, they seem to have no soul to me. I just don't get it, where did they learn what 'love' means? Even in Church people are taught that God loves them for who they are, no matter their sins, and of course there are double-standards too but that's just bible-talk to me. The overall message is that God loves openly so why can't we? I hate that people use something meant to bring peace as a weapon against others when it suits them (talking about religion/bible here).
I'm not really atheist, I believe in non-physical forces aside from heat, electricity, etc. Just in case someone though I was religious based on the previous paragraph. I've had Christian friends and attended Church with some of them out of curiosity...

One time I stood up and walked out because a "guest" priest started blaming the gay community being advertised on television for his addiction to pornography :wallbang:

Nah, she's probably not blaming the gay community for her issues. That's what I mean. She sees herself as protecting the institution of marriage from us but, like most politicians, when faced with this shock of reality (getting caught) she would never utter it with a straight face.

Sarcastic as it is, sarcasm in itself isn't that bad. It's just a mostly harmless quip.

With all due respect to the pain of broken marriages, and the shame of getting caught cheating, I don't blame the gays a bit for savoring the moment. How dare she feel not only entitled to marriage but actively deny it to others who hold it's vows more sacrosanct than she does?

I don't see anywhere in the article that Mrs. Koch had an affair with another woman so it escapes me that the Gay community would issue an apology.

On another note, you seem to be poisoned and biased if you think that Republicans consider gays to be an evil influence. Get over yourself. I am a Republican and some of my dearest friends are gay and married to each other and I couldn't care less. It isn't for me to judge so do me the favor of doing the same. Your poisonous stance makes me positively sick.

agree with you fully SQ. It is downright pathetic.

That was very well put. I don't like Gingrich either. What ticks me off about this entire thread is the general assumption that all Republicans appear to be labeled as right wing, bible thumping, pistol toting neocons who are out to destroy the homosexual community. People who broadcast this kind of ignorance need to have their heads examined. They have no clue how the individual Republican feels on the matter. I never would have thought to find such people on this website. My bad.

I have to say, I was a little bothered by the immature statement made to ridicule the person in question. I have no idea who she is, I don't want to know who she is but for the gay community to decide they will rise up and take advantage of this situation by making fun of her is just distasteful.

I feel that "minority" groups tend to fight their battles with sarcasm, cursing and crudeness. For example, there are tons of people who love the pit bulls and make their videos imploring people to change the laws about them, but they use curse words, crude phrases and immature name calling to those who made the laws... talk about losing credibility.
There was a video going around of a man standing up for gay rights for his two mothers. He was very well spoken, mature and a lovely person... being mature about a situation goes much further than using sarcasm and name calling.
