I've read about wood pellets on the base of the cage floor, but will they work in the litter box only? They are just as absorbant and odor controlling as Yesterday's News?

I believe kscanuck uses those and swears by them as being equally as good. I did a few years ago use them in litter box and I didn't find them that good but that might depend perhaps on the quality? I don't know...

yes, I LLOOOVEEEEEE my wood pellets...
no issue whatsoever in the last year, works wonderfully!
I use them in my bass pans, which covers the whole foot print of my CNs cages.
I dont "do" litters or liners :)

40 lbs for $5...hard to beat that!

The price is wonderful. I've searched on the subject and some say the pellets are too large for their feet or the rats tried to gnaw the wood pellets. Any concerns of that with your rats? And no odour?

yes they do chew on them and play with then and my girls hoard the pellets in their igloo... it's solid wood, no harm done, it's not like they eat the pellets as their main food source...

who ever said the pellets are too big for their feet, then that applies the YN just as well since it is the same size & shape.
