Since having the surgery on my knee done, I have started to do a lot of walking in the evenings.
This time of year is just so beautiful. I bundle myself up and walk the sidestreets of Stouffville. It is so serene this time of year, the snow mutes so much of the noise. Tonight was really nice because it is a bit warmer and a light snow was falling.
I decided to take some pictures of my walk tonight, to show some of the stunning century homes in this area, and some of the wonderful efforts made by people to decorate their homes.
Hope you enjoy!

This one is huge.

This is two houses. Love the icicles hanging down.

Very pretty house with a nice stained glass window.

Pretty house.

Special yellow bricks that used to have to be brought in from London, Ontario. That colour brick is not local.

More of the yellow brick with pretty gingerbread trim.

Church decorations. BORING! I know, I know, I agree about the whole commercialism thing and that it is supposed to be all about religion, but come on they could be a bit more festive! It is a celebration after all.

Quiet street, and not plowed very well.

Frozen stream with little bridge.

Electric animals!

I was getting this really creepy ecoplasm thing going on, but then I started to hold my breath while taking the picture. It went away, go figure!

That is Santa in a chimney on the left, the bear has crushed him and he doesn’t come up and down anymore.

I will follow up tomorrow with my photos from my visit to the police station after a paranoid Stouffvillian called them after I took pictures of their decorations.

Very nice! And I love the way that your camera caught the snowflakes.

[Edit] Just saw your comment about the police station visit.... wow, they sure are paranoid out there!!! :confused2:

Great pictures! :D Some of the houses reminded me of those little Christmas village models that many stores put out this time of year.

Gee, I would have thought that people would be flattered that you'd want to take a photo of their decorations instead of having you hauled off by the cops!

I was just joking about the police station, although I did have to explain to the neighbour of one of the electric animal homes what I was doing when she saw the flash from the street.
I took my walk very late last night, most humble Stouffvillians were asleep.
:)

Absolutely gorgeous!! You must have went out pretty late, all the houses are dark.
Your comments are sooo funny. Hello Santa!!
Looks like you guys got as much snow as us, do you always get that much?

We had a lot of snow, probably quite a bit more than the 30cm predicted.
It was so much that the Bobcat that does the sidewalks couldn't handle it and gave up. I had to shovel most of my sidewalk as well. I have had to walk on the streets lately because the sidewalks are in such bad shape.
Some streets are not plowed very well, but if they weren't plowed at all you just wouldn't be able to move.

Man you live in a real "Dickens Village"...well thats what it looks like. Very pretty pictures and thank you for sharing.

I too love your comments, I SOL (snorted out loud) with the wave and "Hello Santa" picture!!!

I love some of the houses in Stouffville. I know the one with the yellow siding, I LOVE that house. (4th pic)

Thanks for taking us on your walk :D

It's funny, Stouffville has a semi colourful past.
The large century homes up here were actually 'summer houses' for the rich in Toronto.
Many were also sanctuaries for those with tuberculosis. Many homes have these really large second floor balconies with strangely large doors going out to them. They are really disproportioned and look strange. That was to accomodate wheeling the large beds of the TB patients out to the balconies to be able to get some relief to their lungs with the fresh air.
Betcha there are lots of ghosties floating around. Maybe that wasn't my breath I was seeing in the pictures.

Wow that was amazing! Did you wave and say hi to the police station too? LOL
I felt like I was on your walk with you. I really do miss seeing snow, I think I need to make a trip up to the mountains and go skiing, then go to the beach in the afternoon!

The houses are great, nice little history lesson.

May I ask where exactly is Stouffville?

I'm glad everyone is enjoying my pictures. It was fun taking them and sharing them here.

Stouffville is about 30-40 minutes drive North East of Toronto, it is 50kms from my door right down to the heart of Toronto. It is wonderful because it is a rural community, lots and lots of farms mostly corn, but it is so close to the city. When you come into Stouffville the signs read 'Welcome to Stouffville, Country Close to the City'.
