When to increase size of rat pups nest? Mom is sleeping outside it now.

The pups were born October 1st and are getting bigger and are taking up more space in the shoe box they're in which means their mom can't sleep beside them.

Is it safe to remove the shoe box so they have more room to move around or should they be in a small space to keep each other warm?If so, will the mom freak out looking for the shoebox to put her pups back in?

When we had rescued a few litters here, we did change up their bedding and boxes. She should be fine if you put a new one in.

Sometimes moms will go in to feed then rest elsewhere, but change the box and see if that helps first.
