I will be leaving in an hour or so to go to the Tractor supple store to do an adoption event! It is small and local so I am excited about this. Our first ever! I will post a lot of pictures today when I get back! :) Wish us luck! If nothing else we can educate on how awesome rats are!

It was out in public with the rats that is what I wanted. At least people know we are there. I got a lot of "Ewws" and "That could be the start of a problem" my husband almost snapped on him LOL

We were invited by the local shelter to attend a camp for kids that is all about critters..

One of the boys was freaked out and bite dsptch911! The babies. I wont take them again they dont do well with all that happening :pillred: I hope your finger is ok! I got to see her boys and holy cow Peanut is bigger in life LOL but omg so sweet.

Snickers almost got me but i am faster than he is :)

One of my adopters son Zander, he LOVES the rats and is quite the little rattie advocate!

Oh my gosh, this post is amazing! I wish I could have been there, what a great showcase for how wonderful rescue rats are! And what a great kid Zander is! Can I please adopt him? :D (Zander is the great kid and Jackson is the ratty ambassador, yes?) I love seeing young kids who are so sensitive and thoughtful about small animals, and a rat advocate no less! Way to go Zander!! And you could not have a better rat than Jackson to show how charming and sweet ratties are...look at that big welcome smile on Jackson's face! Just a doll! What a great job Zander did on those signs too! :cool2:

And I am very jealous that you got to pet a prairie dog's belly. I would love to be able to do something like that!

And you had Dspch's fur kids there?? I had no idea! Dspch, is one of those Peanut?

Jackson is a very good boy. He will be the one I take to the camp with me. Dsptch brought the 5 boys she adopted from me last year. It was awesome to see how HUGE they are now. So much bigger in life and bigger than the ones I have left over from the litter. They are just long big boys it is insane! And yes one of them was peanut! Such a love!

Jackson looks like such a love! What a great ambassador for rats he makes!

I cannot remember which of Dspch's ratties is Peanut. Is he the big fawn/beige colored one? Peanut and my Achilles are both very fat boys and Dspch and I were recently comparing notes on their current weights, etc. I just could not remember which coloring Peanut was.

I hope you can get more photos of Jackson with you at your next public event, or even home photos of him...I just fell in love with that boy!

Wow, your set up looks fabulous!
It's tough to know how a rat is going to respond to all the action until you are actually there. It looks like Jackson was the star, for sure.
Dspch911's boys are all huge! Must be something in the water. LOL
I hope your finger heals up fast!

I am shocked they are so big. I have mommas and they are small and i have 11 of their siblings here still. 6 handicap rats are their brothers/sisters and they are not nearly as long. Peanut is the beige dumbo.... The biggest one there. I said they were bigger than some teacup poodles I have seen. :)

Jackson is great. The babies dont do well with any change so I should of known better but I didnt expect them to bite but I am sure they were scared.

I am excited to do the kids camp and take jackson and oliver to show them off to kids! That wildlife rescue event I went to after yesterday is having rescue day today so I am washing my shirt now and going to take jackson out there for a few hours. I am just trying to get our name out there. Community support and adoptions would be great. We have a tougher battle saving rats since they are not the most famous pets but Jackson can change their minds ;)

Yep, that's my big Peanut (AKA: Coconut, Cantaloupe, or Jabba the Hut) but daddy gets mad when I call him those names!

Finger is painful and swollen, but at least it was me and not a stranger... Not a big deal!

All those babies were so darn cute... but I think you need something that makes it more obvious that your adopting them out and not just educating people on them. Zander one more poster is needed!!! Some looks on peoples faces was priceless though!

I still cant believe he bit. They never bitten before always skittish but never biting. I am making signs... No fingers in cage LOL they are ok out of it I think it was just to much stress for them...

Today we went to the wildlife event again but today was rescue day there. I was able to hang out with my wild life rehabber friend, she has two different programs she does wildlife and pulling dogs for vetting from high kill shelters and putting them in rescues. There is a few very high kill shelters around here Gary, IN and Chicago so they take sick dogs vet them and then put them in a rescue group. Then she does the wild life rehabbing from her home. She is the one I fed the baby raccoons with which was so amazing. I took Jackson and oliver with so I could just walk around with them on my shoulders. It was just awesome for others to be willing to hold him and so on. I took a picture for a woman who was scared of rats so she could show her husband she held one. Little kids were running up yelling " A mouse" or "A hamster" so I would correct them and let them pet him. So many other rescues were unaware of a rat rescue in the area, so they all took my cards. I spoke with a vet who said she has clients that say they adopt them but had no idea rescues existed. I explained to her about what we see with them such as PT, leg amputations, tumor removals and spays. She just wasnt aware which was awesome. Hopefully she will look at her rats patience differently. People would run up and just grab him. They loved that he would walk my arms from one hand up the arm to the other hand. He is quite the show off in public. Now I am so excited about going for the little kids at the camp so he can make a few more people love rats. It was a great 3 hours out there. I just adored having people see that we exist and we can hopefully find homes!

Here is what the event was about.

Yea, I did break the cardinal rule and put my fingers in the cage!! :nyahnyah:They marinaded my finger with kisses before the chomp!

Fantastic that you are striving to educate the public about how wonderful rats are! And yes, I am sure the biting episode was due to fright. I am sure it was a bit scary for the lil bubs. Jackson is just a delight...what a great representative for how sweet and charming rats are!
