I would think it was pyometra and with vaginal discharge it means the cervix is open allowing the infection to flow out which is the better pyo to have. How is she acting, does the discharge smell? I am sure all will go well, as long as your vet is confident!

No odd smells or change in her behavior. The blood is thin and there's no tissue or weird consistency. She's actually become more active and social in the past couple months and the bleeding hasn't seemed to change that at all.

I made the appointment today. I was walked through the procedure and the expected recovery time over the phone and I take her in before work tomorrow morning. And I'm glad I'll be at work, because otherwise I'll spend all that time worrying.

Thank you guys. She's with the vet now. The specialist was close to Dot's last foster home, so her foster mama came and paid her a visit too. They'll be prepping her for surgery around 12, hopefully.

She's home and set up in her recovery cage. And her last foster mama met me up there and we met her as they were bringing her out. She got lots of love from both of us.

During the surgery, they confirmed my concerns bout her uterus. It was swollen badly, but the walls were becoming very thin. It was dilated more than it should have been too. They didn't give a specific name to the problem. They just let me know that her uterus was seriously unhealthy and was running the risk of serious complications.

Okay, so today we had a little freak out. She started bleeding a lot. It stopped at the vet. The vet thinks she might have had a blood clot from the surgery and it burst today. He doesn't think there's anything wrong beyond that, but she's under some heavy observation here at home. No more blood and she's acting totally normal. I'm just really anxious today and I'm really hoping there aren't any lasting complications.

Ugghh! How unnerving that must have been!

But I'm glad the vet thinks there are no lasting complications. Sending along my cheeriest healing thoughts. :hugs:
