So, Jenn had posted on here previously about two rats in Hamilton that were abandoned. A man had taken them in so they didn't go to the pound, but had no idea how to take care of them, what they require, etc.
I went and picked up what I thought was a male, but in turn is a female. I'm not sure what her cagemate was but it had died a few weeks before.
So, the questions. She looks like she's older. She's not itchy, no bites, doesn't smell, etc. She is eating, drinking, and moving well. But, she's been scratching her eyes. They are leaky. Probably due to the stress of losing her cagemate and being moved around so much. I'm putting warm compresses on them in hopes that they get better.
What is bothering me is that I've also noticed that one of her eyes is out a bit more than the other (I know this is a sign of PT, but that is the only symptom she is showing). It does tend to go back in but it's worrying me a little.
So, she's in what looks to be great health, with the exception of the porphyrin and the eye bulging out a bit. Should I give her some Baytril until I can get her to the vet? Or not medicate her at all?
This really sucks because I've just had three of my rats to the vet in the past two weeks. The life of a rescue huh? Just have to take an extra shift next week.
