As some of you might already know, my older boy Lyric has been battling with a recurring facial absess for the past few months. It went away for a bit after I took him to the vet and she drained it, but now another hard absess has formed in a different spot close to the original one and I can't afford the 400$ to have it removed....the meds (baytril and doxy) and daily treatment are doing nothing anymore other than making him miserable. So I've decided I'm just going to keep him on baytril until its time to get him pts. It could be a week, or it could be 2 months...I've never had to deal with absesses before this so I have no idea how long he will be able to go.
So now his brother Attakis is going to be alone. They have been together ever since they were separated from the rest of the litter so they are deeply bonded to one another. I can already tell Attakis will go into a deep depression without Lyric, and I have no idea what to do for him. He's not really into human interaction the way my other rats are...he's kind of a strange rat. So whats the best way to handle this? The possibility of introducing another younger male has crossed my mind but Attakis can be very tense and I don't know how well he would take to another male.
