If you look at the one second from the right you'll notice she's not pure white...

You can really tell the difference in colour in this photo.

The one on the left has a noticeably darker rear end, the baby on the right also isn't fully white though it doesn't show well in this photo. These two stuck out today among the vast amounts of white in their cage.

Even her tail is getting darker fur up until the tip.

Not sure what colour those two are but still pretty certain the rest are PEW's. Anybody have any idea? In other news, they clean their little faces and scratch themselves with their hind feet now which is so cute. And tiny itty bitty incisors are coming in! Also after today I decided they're too advanced for the margarine container as one almost managed to pull itself up and tumble out.

A neat little line of bubs :)

I came home from work today to see a couple little pirate babies in the cage, four hours later two have both eyes open!

So the babies are 17 days old and all eyes are open, they move very quick and are starting to play. Today we also had an issue with the cage momma and babies are in, headbutted a weak wire on the cage and broke it and the babies are big enough to fit through. Ive twist tied it closed in the meantime and I do have another cage but it has levels and I dont know if I should put them in with the levels yet. Also can I start reintroducing toys and hammocks for Simone? I dont want any of the babies to get hurt with stuff in the cage but I want Simone to have something to do other than be with the babies and I want the babies to have stuff to do as they grow.

a solid (or wire wheel - not bars) mounted on the side of the cage would be ok

Does mom get out for short periods of time to get a break, run around, play, and socialize with her friends?

(I would wait until 4 or 5 weeks old before putting in hammocks, unless they were very very low .... as I have heard of young babies bouncing out of hammocks, falling and dying)

Simone came to me as a lone rat and the first week we got her we were looking at adopting another rat to be her companion from our local rat rescue but on the 9th day of her being with us she had babies and so she doesnt currently have other rat friends. She does get out to hang out with me a lot though. I mostly just feel bad that when I'm at work for an 8 hour shift she has nothing to do but be smothered by demanding little ones. I will definitely look into a wheel as I dont have one since my boys never used it so I sold it long ago. Also the babies keep climbing the cage bars sometimes all the way to the top and it freaks me out, should I stop them and how?

I wouldn't stop them from doing that... they will be so active very soon and you won't have a choice anyway. lol I'm sure mom is enjoying her new little family, I wouldn't feel bad for her. ;)

Some new pictures of the bubbas! Theyre now 23 days old and cute as ever. So active and so funny, definitely becoming more agile but still a little clumsy. :p Momma is starting to wean them I think, I dont see her feeding them nearly as much and theres always babies nibbling on lab blocks or drinking from the water bottle.
