Alright Rat Parents:

How many here have shoulder riding rats that love to be on you when you do things? I'm just curious as I've socialized all my girls to love travelling with me on my shoulder for walks or in my arms for walks or when I'm doing chores like sweeping or taking out the garbage. How many travelling rats do we have here? Tell me about your shoulder rats!

I've had so many rats that love shoulders! Pepper, my heart rat, sat on mine and at almonds watching fireworks. He was fine until one made a screech sound, and he dropped his almond! But he was ALWAYS up for a ride!

OMG that's awesome. What does 'heart rat' mean? I've heard this term many times but never can figure out what it actually means.

We all have that one (or sometimes multiple) rat that just weaves it's way into our hears and never leaves. It's like the most special one. They are all special, but this one is.....SPECIAL. Thats the only way I can describe it....😂

I have a shoulder rat all of the time! Ironically enough, their names all started with G... Gideon, Grumpy, Genji, and Gabe. Although, those boys often liked being cradled like a baby, Gabe especially. Those boys would also climb on me as soon as the cage opened and sit on my shoulder as I did my things. It got to the point where not having a rat on my shoulder was weird lol.

Gideon was my first heart rat and was definitely the most special of my boys. He used to leap from his cage onto me if I wasn't close enough. I don't know how to describe a heart rat other than they're the one you've bonded to a different degree than your other rats. You don't necessarily love him or her more, you two just have a deeper relationship. I've seen people describe it as a strictly platonic soul-mates sort of deal. I'm also part of the small group that believe you can have multiple heart-animals. For example, I have my dog, my shoulder rats that were listed, etc.
