The Rescue of the Month announcements have already been sent out, but we have a number of other things that we would like to share with everyone. 
The Travelin' Rat has just resumed the Rescue of the Month program after a 2 month hiatus. Tiny Toes Rat Rescue of NM is benefitting from our efforts this month. We have from December 2013 on open
if you are a rescue that takes in rats and is "organized and operating" as a 501(c)(3) as per the IRS and would like to be our Rescue of the Month.
We have just moved our Items for Sale off of Facebook and onto our webpage
so make sure to head on over to the new store site to check out all the goodies we have available at http://thetravelinrat.weebly.com/ttr-store.html. Remember that 100% of the net proceeds from our store goes toward helping rescues in need.
Hopefully this will be a much more user-friendly setup, though anyone outside the US will have to actually email us instead of using the webpage, unfortunately. Please let us know if you come across any problems by emailing ecratweekly@ live.com (remove space).
Every Sunday, we use our Facebook coverphoto for a different Rat of the Week. Starting this month, the first week will be used to highlight adoptable ratties from our current Rescue of the Month. The remaining weeks will feature fan submissions. Feel free to send in Rat of the Week pics to ecratweekly@ live.com (remove space). Be sure to check out Tiny Toes Rat Rescue's Quincy and Quentin this week!

BIG news is that we sent our 501(c)(3) application in in June. We don't expect to hear back with a decision until at least June of next year. Fingers and paws crossed that we are approved- it will be tough figuring out what to do if we aren't! Currently donations to The Travelin' Rat are not tax-deductible, but, if we are approved, they will be retroactive to the date of incorporation (Feb 6, 2012).

The Travelin' Rat would like to send out a warm welcome and very BIG thank you to Abby and Lisa, aka Bunny Bliss. Abby has actually been working with us for a few months, beautifying our webpage and helping with our Travelin' Rat doll, amongst several other projects. Lisa has plans to coordinate a quarterly auction, starting with one in November, plus she'll be helping us with networking and PR. Lisa also sews and donates (along with Karen Borga) the wonderful hammocks many of you have seen or purchased from our Facebook "Items for Sale" store. Both Abby and Lisa are volunteering their time with The Travelin' Rat right now, which we are grateful for. There is quite a bit going on behind the scenes and we can surely use that extra help!
Thank you, also, to board members Julie and Frank, who have been working hard to keep things running smoothly. We strive very hard both to have unique rat-related items and for excellent customer service, and they've both been going above and beyond even during some rough patches.
MANY MANY thank-yous also to all who have been supporting us and the rescues we help by buying from us, our Zazzle store, Etsy store, Rescue Chocolate with our code, setting up and buying from our fundraisers, and designating us as the recipient charity at iGive.com. We have great aspirations and can't do what we do without the support we've received!
