My boy just recently got 12 stitches above his shoulder because of a boy fight. About 4 days ago he got them put in and is due to have them taken out Friday. He has been scratching at them and now there is 3 pulled out. I have been putting Kids polysporn on it. My vet isent open until tomorrow, does anyone have any suggestions until then ?

Yeah 12 is alot & thanks! :). The polysporn has taken some of the dryness out so it's not as itchy anymore.

Instead of polysporin, I'd put vaseline. Polysporin will make it heal too fast and will prevent any drainage and trap a possible infection inside.

My vet has told me to use kids polysporn (not as strong), I have used it now for the past year, no troubles yet.

Oscar pulled otu another 3 stitches yesterday while I was at work ...lil furball won't have any left friday for the vet to take out ..it's all closed up though ..dosen't look very pleasent though

I'm at work right now, I can once I get home. It's not that it looks bad, just that it looks unpleasent because it's stitches. My boyfriends mom is a nurse and she said it looks fine, theres just 5 or 6 stitches pulled out/untired from scratching ..and it's in a spot where rat's scratch all the time. It don't seem to be hurting him, I put kids poylsporn on it twice a day to pervent it from gettng sore. It is red where the stiches are pulled on (but thats to be expected).

Don't put on polysporin, you are going to promote healing and stop any drainage. It's perfectly fine if a few stitches get pulled out. Rats heal so fast and so well, that even an open wound eventually closes up which is pretty much why when a rat gets a gash there's really no need to see a vet, just keep it clean and it will heal.

I had Oscar at the vet yesterday, all is good, getting them taken out tomorrow, the vet said that its healing well and to continue with kids polysporn because it is not as strong as adult polysporn ..and only to put it on once during the day.
Wish him luck tomorrow getting them out! :D
