Ok, so yesterday I had Rinky on me and felt something on the side of his neck. It actually looks like a tick.....can they get ticks? If not, I'm thinking maybe he scratched himself or my other Dumbo, Bingo did it. What can I put on it to heal it?

Thanks in advance for the help

all animals can get ticks but it is unlikely unless you had him somewhere he could get one
If it is a tick, I assume you would want a vet to removed it asap!
People do buy plastic tick removers to use for their dogs and cats

    Please post some pictures

No, I know all animals get ticks. It was just weird bacause my cat is an inside cat & I had to put my dog to sleep last year. So unless a person brought it in, I couldn't see it being that. Anyway, it is not a tick, just a scab, very little. I've been cleaning it & putting neosporin on it. It looks like it should fall off in a couple days. Thanks SQ

So, Rinky's scab was healed. But, I just gave him a bath and found all these little scabs on him. They are tiny dots. Most fell off when I washed him. I'm thinking it's when him and Bingo play rough because even though Rinky is older, he lets Bingo take advantage of him until he becomes really pissed & pins Bingo down. I have a picture but I'm having so much trouble posting it. Does anyone else have this problem with little scabs?

This is what my vet recommends, it is a broad spectrum preparation that is extremely effective against parasite and fungal infection, . If it is fungle as it sounds to be then as far as l am concerned there is no better treatment, 1 dab on the affected area /s and within a few days the affected area is clear of any infection, and it never returns! The only downside is that you need your vet to rite you a script! Also after opening it is recommended to use within 28 days!
I have a bottle that has been open for well over a year and it is still as effective

Thanks Dave. But if its not an infection, will it hurt him? Oh, also, I found the same stuff on Amazon & don't need a script.

the little scabs on the neck/shoulders and head are usually a sign of mites. The best treatment is Revolution for cats or dogs, and you just use a tiny amount once.
They can get mites from infected bedding, toys, another infested rat etc. If you use wood or paper based beddings its advisable to freeze it for 48 hours before using it, to kill off stowaways.

Here is an article (with pics ) I created for just such issues.
