sand paper perches

We have these perches at work, that are obvously for birds, and i was thinking I might add some to my rat cage, to see if it helps file down their sharp nails. do you think they would be to hard on the ratties feet? my babies have crazy sharp nails, and I can't get them to hold still long enough to cut them, and i'm afraid of quicking them because they move so fast. I know people have recomended putting a brick under their watterbottle, but i don't know where i can get just one brick.

I don't know about those perches (I'd be afraid of them chewing on them personally...?) but if you can't find just one brick, what about a rock of some sort? I know a lot of people mentioning using that, as well...If it's from outside, be sure to boil or freeze it though...

I did see someone using one of those and the rats never chewed it but it did help with the nails.
