Looking to create some home-made toys, hideaways, etc for my rats. I was wondering if there is anything I should avoid materials-wise? I will expect them to chew whatever is put in there, and I don't want them to accidentally ingest anything unsafe.

So far I have toilet paper rolls, a tissue box, egg carton, and a hard plastic yogurt container that was washed out. Also thinking about tearing up partially printed on paper (from my inkjet printer) and putting in in there.

Just wondering if rats actually eat what they chew, and if there is any materials or dyes/inks/etc that I should avoid?

Thanks! :)

If the stuff you use is safe for babies, then it will be safe for rats.
Find out if your ink from your printer is vegetable based before giving it to the rats.
