Typically I keep my posts on one thread but my roly poly bubs need a post of their own.We celbrated Roo's 3 birthday this weekend with butter cookies. All rats young and old enjoyed the cookies. I handed out 2 1/2 boxes of cookies to all the rats in the house
Roo turned 3 on December 20,2015. He left 9 days later, but he made it to three. He proved me. wrong. For the first time in 3 long years, I wont have to use vet bedding in a 47inch rabbit cage for him I have modifying cages to suit him his entire life. In his old age, he ate, and slept but he loved his ears being cleaned and but hated bath time. We have had to bathe him on a regular basis due to urine scald the babies were in danger of getting due to not being able to pee but on themselves.
He spent his life with friends, Doodle and Chai.
I lost my Roo today. I finally looked he was born in the first litter which was grace's 12/20/12, faith's was born on 12/24/12, and Noels babies were born on 12/28/12. I cannot tell you the love I have had for these babies. When we first noticed that they moved differently I kept pointing it out to my favorite rat people. These were my first litters so it was totally knew to me. once they started walking we knew something wasn't right. I honestly did not believe they would last to be 6 months old, for sure not the 1 year mark. We lost hopper before he turned two but the others all made it to two years old and my little Roo left us today. Hopper, Lily, Willow, Liam, Hippo, Turtle, and Roo came from the first and last litter. all of them were handicapped with a curved spine. Their back legs did not move as normal rats did, instead they moved together more like a rabbit hopping or a frog. They were always such a joy, they amazed me daily with their antics and how fast they could move, run in wheels, climb the cage bars, fight, popcorn and do anything else that a normal rat could. I will miss these guys, this era who started the rescue is now gone. Play hard at the bridge roly poly bubs. I will always have a super special place in my heart for you.
They were smaller than their siblings for a long time. These next 2 video they are all the same litters.

These guys started our rescue loosing the final one is a huge blow to us. I have loved them for 3 years, I have cared for them and their needs for 3 years, modified cages, ordered expensive bedding, bathed, cleaned ears, watched willies. It will be different with out them here.
Play hard Willow, Liam, Turtle, Hippo, Lily, Turtle and hopper. I was so lucky to be able to love you for 3 years.
