we just adopted a new rattie girl.
we were all excited and love her to death but she has been really neglected..
she seems really skinny for her size (i feel ribs and she is really squishy, while my other girls are the same size and are firm in size) and her nails are so long they are turning and she cant really walk right, nor can she get up her levels.

i guess what im asking is is their any way i can cut her nails by myself? or do i need to take her into the vets to get them done?

here are the best pictures i could get of her nails

Congrats on the new addition!

Poor thing, those nails need a good trimming. You can most definitely do this without seeing a vet, it's a matter of what you are comfortable doing. When trimming nails it's important to note where the quick is (it's the redish area inside the nail); you want to cut above it. If you hit the quick the nail will bleed. Having a styptic pencil just in case is a good idea, it will stop the bleeding. It helps to trim nails near the light of a lamp or in a bright room, to see the quick better.

For rattie nails I just use a regular human nail cutter.
