Merlin is fixed. Male. He pizzles often while playing. But not on the bed or couch. He will run around. Sit on my hand and kick my finger. Then when he runs off I find out he just pizzled. I searched and some say they "claim" you because they feel safe or like you. I am new to this. What does it mean?

Rats are territorial and mark their territory, like dogs.
He is marking you, take it as a compliment, he is claiming you as his.

Yep, it's a good thing, rats not only mark their territory but they also "mark" their way around. Rats' eye sight is really poor so they really heavily on scent and marking the area makes it a safe place to go.
