We now have 3 incidents to give us insight into Peachblossom's biting:
1. The boys were out for playtime on the bed, at the time the were both in the crinkle tube with Peach in the end nearest to me. I was scratching my fingernails in the fabric of the tube, Peach was watching. I had been doing it for probably less than a minute, but definitely more than a few seconds when he bit. I pulled my hand back and made lots of loud noises, possibly flailed a bit, he let go right away. It bled a surprising amount and my finger ached for a few hours.
2. The boys were in their cage, I was feeding them babyfood off a spoon. I had my non-spoon arm resting along the doorway to the cage with my hand hanging just inside. after he'd lost interest in the babyfood he casually walked up to my hand and bit my pinky. Again, I pulled my hand back and made loud noises, again he let go right away. This bite wasn't nearly as deep, only a drop or two of blood, though I did get the feeling he would have bit harder had I not scared him off.
3. Playtime on the bed again, the boys had been out for nearly an hour. I had my hand resting on the laptop. I was a bit zoned out, so when Peachblossom approached I didn't quite realize it was him and not stormy, and I didn't hide my hand like I had been. He calmly walked up and bit my hand, bit didn't manage to break the skin before I made a noise and startled him. I didn't pull my hand back this time, actually managed to keep pretty still, and the quick intake of breath that comes from expecting pain was enough to startle him out of it, though again it did feel as though he would have bit harder had I not made a noise.
General update:
The boys seem to be adjusting, though they are still pretty skittish. I find it very odd what startles them and what doesn't. If I'm feeding babyfood off a spoon, all I have to do is sigh or shift my weight for them to bolt, but if they're trying to climb out of the cage they have no fear of my arm blocking them or trying to push them back in. During playtime on the bed they come up to me and climb over me (Stormy has even climbed up the pillows to check out my shoulder and sniff my face) but any sudden movements or noises, they run. Unless of course they're hanging over the edge of the bed thinking about jumping, then all the snapping fingers in the world won't phase them.
I'll try to do another photo update soon, but I am very lazy, so we'll see :giggle:
