My rat hurt his tale

Recently, our rat hurt its tale. A bit of skin was ripped of the tale and now he has a wound. It doesn't bleed, but we can see the red skin or flesh inside the wound. Is there anything specific er should do? We have already bandaged his wound, but should we clean it or use some medicaments as well? We don't want to get an infection there.

I wouldn't bandage it, just keep it clean and it will heal soon enough.
The reason I wouldn't bandage is because the rat might work extra hard and going after the wound to remove the bandage and you don't want that...
Keep an eye on it, if it looks like it's getting worse, turning green or black, he'll need antibiotics in case there's an infection.

It's on his tail, about right in the middle of where the tail starts and ends.

If he is in pain, medicam for a few days might help.
