Is 3 1/2 a good life span for a rat?

I had to get my little guy Andy put down a week ago, he was about 3 or 4 weeks when I picked him from the feeder bin at Total Pet.
He would have been four this nov.
Is that a long life for a rat?

2 is about the average. This is mostly due to the various health issues rats are prone to....

3.5 years is a long life span in rats. For me, anything from 3 years and more is "old". I'd guesstimate that 3 years is approximately the equivalent to a human in their early 90's or very late 80's. So 3.5 years is roughly equivalent to a human in their mid 90's.

Consider yourself lucky. I have had rat pass away just under the age of 2.
