Hey guys,

I am, fairly new here, and just starting my rat journey. I am getting a cage this week (I think) and will be getting the rats shortly after. I have already spoken to a two people who have baby rats. Because one person has a gray one, and another person has hooded, I would like to get one each from two separate litters. All are babies. Can I just put them together right away, or do I have to intoduce slowly, like adult rats?

Thanks for your input.

male they need to be under 10-12 weeks. Males can find attitude very soon. They also need to be very close in age to not have an introduction. You have to be positive that both are free of viruses or being sick in anyway. You shouldnt just toss them in, it is ideal to watch how they will react and make sure you can monitor them closely for the first day or so. It is not unheard of a younger male killing another with a bad bite.
