Hi. I'm going to be a new rat mom, come August this year. I am getting 2 from a local breeder here. I'm crazy excited. I've done as much research as I possibly can. I've never had rats before but I've always wanted them.

So far, I've got the cage and most accessories. I do have more things to get but I'd love to know everyone's opinion.

EDIT: BTW, I'm getting 2 boys:)

Nice! Your new ratties are going to love it
They will like the card board boxes for houses and have fun chewing them :)
Good that you have a water dish :)

Suggest that you get rid of the grate on your litter box
add a few more litter boxes, and tubes, space pods, more hammocks, etc
You might want to cover the pans

Check out the pics on the habitat section as there are interesting ideas

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm definitely not done yet. Slow process. But it'll be ready when they come home.

Oh yeah, the critter nation pics post is the best place for ideas! I think you could use a few chewable toys. My kids always loved the little wood and wicker bird toys.

Hi Zariah! Welcome! I think both you and your new kids will be very happy with each other. You didn't say if you're getting boys or girls? Their new home looks great. With those hammocks it would be really easy to cut a piece of fabric and clip it where the loops meet the hammock, the kids will enjoy going between the fabrics.. they'll enjoy shredded paper in their hideyhouses too. :)

Hi where did you get that tube? My pvc pipe from Home Depot is so bulky and multi-thicknessed that it takes up all the room.

I actually found this pvc pipe in our shed. So it is super old. But you can try a smaller hardware store. They may have what you need. We have a couple local ones here that i sometimes go to.
