Help!!! Red patch/lesion??

Okay, so I woke up the other day to see Marco had a big gash( well, not a gash, but don't know what else to call it) on the side of his body by his back leg. I'm not sure what it is, though I've been researching a bunch. Its not mites, I dont think. He does seem to have trouble walking, though that might just be old age( 2 1/2 yrs old). I'm really really worried so some help would be appreciated..... Here are some pics:

Is the skin around it blackish? Does it smell bad? It looks like an abscess...

Pyoderma? I'd get him on Baytril or something like Clavamaox, Bactrim...

I actually did notice some black around the skin...Oh no! I haven't noticed a change in smell, but I'll check again later.
Should I try putting some antibiotic cream on it for the time being, like neosporin?

No don't put any creams on as they can cause the outside to heal the infection in. Are you able to squeeze any puss out of it?
