hey everyone ! joined the forum today when i came across you guys when googling ratty info. i'm pixie :) livin' on the east coast of australia just doing ma thing loving life and caring for my little berkshire ratty pepper, she's my little baby and i love her very much. i've been a rat enthusiast and lover for a few years now, my first rats were arthur and kirby back in 2012 but i sadly had to leave them with my uncle and cousins when i moved back up north from sydney… even more sadly arthur passed from a lung infection not too long ago and kirby followed soon after :C i loved those boys. pepper is currently my only rat and even though you should have at least 2 i am only allowed her, but it's not so bad as she chills with me on my bed most days, and when i go out i usually take her on my shoulder (she loves it!!) aaaand many of my friends have rats so she goes on little play dates to socialise :) i'm not sure how to insert an image into this post but if someone could tell me how i would gladly show you guys a pic of her!
i've been a part of a few forums before so i have a fairly good idea of how these things go.. no spamming or being rude etc, haven't had a chance to read the rules yet but i will as soon as i post this :) probably wont be a HUGELY active member, but i'm excited to meet everyone and their ratties and will definitely post where possible :joy:
sooooo yep! nice to be a part of this massive rat family! thanks guys

this is my little baby pepper :) approx 7-8 weeks old now.. i've had her for about 3 weeks![img=center:12er1phy]http://25.media.tumblr.com/ff883fe8d903c846c66c0cf7304fc77d/tumblr_mzuh3skqhT1qms44fo1_1280.jpg[/img:12er1phy]

Welcome! Have you thought about getting her a sister? Rats are social critters and really need a buddy for a happy and healthy life.

i have very much so but currently my housemate doesn't want any more pets.. she already had enough trouble accepting pepper into the family (but has now fallen in love with her ehehe). i think she's okay though she's hardly ever in her cage.. mostly snuggled up against me or running around on my bed.. and she seems to like my housemates dog rogue. also like i said, many of my friends have pet rats and we take them on playdates :) hopefully when she's old enough i'll breed her with my friend jams rat alfie!!

Playdates with other people's rats is actually a big risk. Your rat will be exposed to whatever illness your friend's rats might have.
You have to think of it this way... Pepper needs to communicate with her own kind. She needs to groom and be groom like a rat should be. Rats talk to each other, she has nobody to talk too. It's a very lonely life for her.
But from your other posts, it does sound like she's sick and it could be because of the play dates. I would get her vet checked asap.

Hi and welcome to the forum! I'm sorry to hear your little one is under the weather. I hope she's feeling better soon.
When you are finally permitted to have more rats, I would strongly discourage you from breeding her, and instead encourage you to rescue some needy rat(s) as so many rats out there need homes!

Hello, and welcome! It's always nice to meet new people. Your Pepper is a cutie!

I must agree with the others that it would not be a good idea to breed her, not when there are so many other homeless rats out there that need love and care. please don't add to the already oversized rat population.
