I've been reading around on Ratguide.com and some place called Rmca.org and i was just wondering if anyone has ever given Glucosamine and maybe Fish oils to rats that are losing the use of their hind end? I just found a post by mamarat2 from a year ago about Supplements (http://www.jorats.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=3385) and she listed both, but i was wondering if anyones tried it for the HED, instead of just as a daily supplement.

I use Cod Liver Oil and Glucosamine seperately myself because i have join usses in my knee's and hip's (sucks for a 21 yr old to be saying that), and i've previously given my guys small cod liver oil capsules that they LOVE.

Has anybody tried it and noticed any improvement or even not noticed any changes? I'm considering giving it a go, but want some people's opinions on it all first.

The articles i've read...
'Arthritis in Rats: A remedy?' on the Rat & Mouse Gazette (RMCA)
http://www.rmca.org/Articles/arthritis.htm
'Care of older, paralyzed rats' on the Rat & Mouse Gazette (RMCA)
http://www.rmca.org/Articles/oldrats.htm'Glucosamine / Chrondroitin Sulfate' on the Rat Guide

I do believe you need to be careful with dosages.
Also, fish oils are high fat content, which in one of ours seems to have caused all kinds of dermal problems. We were giving Avix Booster to our rats but had to stop because of the high fat... it was causing an awful rash.

Sometimes I'll add a little bit of fish oil to baby food but not very often. I generally use flax seed oil because good quality fish oil is hard to find and it's really expensive.

O.k, so fish oils to give on occasion.

Ill see if i can find out some more about the glucosamine and possibly safe dosages. Ill also look into flax seed oil because fish oil IS very expensive :( have u noticed an improvement using flax seed oil in general health and being?
