A lady contacted me today and said she found a brown, young female rat in her backyard - she thought she was a pet rat, the rat was just laying in the ground in the snow - so she took it in. She brought her over - she looks like she has eaten rat poison. She keeps circling, laying down, falling over and staying in the corner of the cage.

Turns out she's wild and not well.

And as I typed this she just jumped onto the side of the cage and started climbing.

So my question is: what should I do? And she's in a different room than my rats but it's the same airspace. Can they get any diseases from her?

I am also working in putting her in a fish tank. Something she can't get out of.

EDIT: just put her in a tank.

Her pee is normal. What she be porph when she sneezes is dark red, almost like blood.

Oh no, what a poor cutie. :(

I hope she gets better, I know rats can take in large amounts of poison and be all right.
Did the lady or her neighbors know what poison was spread around?
If you call a poison control center and know what type it was, you can say it was ingested by a dog or rabbit or guinea pig, and they might help.

posted on FB page too, I really think the kindest thing you can for her is to release her back outside
it's awful that she's not well, at least she won't have the terror of being held captive.

I can't release her until tomorrow evening as I have no way to get her back to where she came from. So right now she's in a quiet, dark room.

Poor baby, I read everyone's comments so I'm not going to watch the videos. I hope she passes quickly and as peacefully as possible.

Oh no! I am so sorry Renee...you barely had this little girl and she passed away so quickly. :(

I thought she might have a chance to work through the rat poison or something...I watched those videos and felt so sorry for her, but I was actually glad that she got to have a bit of time being warm with you rather than dying out in the snow all alone. I could not have left her out in the snow either. This is so sad. Rest well sweet Juniper. You were very kind to her. Now I need a Kleenex. :(

Thank you everyone for such kind words.

She may have been a wildie, and we didn't know her very well, but she certainly stole our hearts in the very short time we knew her
