I have no idea what is happening and I am freaking out.
I adopted 4 boys last December from a rescue in Guelph. Ages then were 12 months, 18 months and 24+ months. In July the oldest boy Johnny had mammary tumors removed and got through surgery just fine. In August I took one of the two younger boys, Calvin, in for respiratory and he recovered on 4 weeks of Zithro (I fought with the vet who would only prescribe that for 2 weeks).
Johnny's age had been showing a lot the last two months. I was doing baths and penis plug removals. He was otherwise healthy and trucking along despite HED (never progressed beyond his back legs).
In May I moved into an apartment with roommates. One of them got kicked out but left behind bed bugs. Tuesday was the second treatment so I packed up the boys that morning and took them to my boyfriend's apartment to stay the night. As soon as I loaded them up the younger one started breathing heavily. I thought the stress was exaggerating symptoms of resp so I thought of booking an appt but my pay hadn't gone through in time due to a system error.
When we got to my boyfriend's he was cleaning his kitchen with Clorox. I left the boys in his hallway, way down from the kitchen, closed his foor and opened his windows. When he was done I moved them to his bedroom, where he hadn't cleaned at all for months (its basically a big walk in closet to him) and kept the door shut.
I also acquired a 10 week old bub... different long story but he was in a carrier while the 4 boys shared a medium sized cage.
By mid day Calvin was gasping for air. He was gone pretty soon after I found him. It seemed so sudden and I kicked myself for not noticing his URI was back sooner and for all the stress I put them throuhh moving them.
Everyone else seemed fine though. I slept over at my boyfriends, had an 8 hour meeting 2 hours away the next morning and when I got back at 7pm Johnny was dying. At this point my pay had come through so I rushed him to emerg and ended it.
That night I moved the boys back to my room in the apartment. Everyone seemed OK, just stressed and/or depressed from the moving around and losing cagemates.
I just got home from spending the day with my boyfriend and doing the rest of my laundry (had to do EVERYTHING for the bed bugs and his laundry is free while I have coin) and now the older one, Smokey is breathing very very heavily.
I will have to get a loan tomorrow morning before I can take him in to the vet. I was let go from my last job and am not making nearly as much as before.
Pardon my language but what the **** is going on!? Is it the Clorox? If the new baby, being kept separate, is OK then could he have carried something in he is somehow immune to?
What the **** is killing all my bubs?! Smokey has got to be over 2 now but he's always been the picture of health and he is suddenly looking like he isn't going to make it through the night
I've never seen this before... I'm panicking.
