The Chat Room:

  • I love it! I intend to use it!

  • It's great, but it's not my thing.

  • It's okay, I guess.

  • What? We have a chat room? <!-- s:wink2: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/wink5.gif" alt=":wink2:" title=

  • I really couldn't care less!

  • I don't like it and you can't make me use it!

The Chat room can be a lot of fun. It can also be sad, especially when you're discussing a crisis happening in real time :(

When it gets too busy I need to get out of there, though.. otherwise it goes too fast and I lose track of who's chatting, hehe.

It's really easy to use, and I love having the instant contact with people, but it's not really my thing. I find it easier to talk to people one at a time. But it's fun to be able to drop in for a quick hello.

Ahh but then you can have private conversations if you need to talk to one person...click on the person's name, underneath pick "Open Private channel" and you will be continually, and privately speaking to that person...just don't forget to close it afterwards. If you only want to do just one message then just Private Msg is fine, because its a one-off. :D

Hehe, i daren't venture in there myself (im such a wuss), but last night there was LOADS of people in! I almost went into the chat room to tell you all to get to bed - it was 1:30am here haha :giggle: (yes, i do understand the time zones :p )

I love it how you can chat with members one-on-one! If there is no ne in the chat room, just join and wait for a minute or two. Then a few people will start appearing.
It's an awesome feature to the community. I intend to use it whenever I can! :)

Often immediate answers are easily found on the forum by using the search function, or looking in the appropriate sub-forum.

I find it very trying when people come on chat and ask a question that has been asked on the forum 479,600 times.

When I go on chat most of the time it isn't to ask questions.
Except that time when I never ever used the site before and never knew about the search :p

I realize no one has posted in this for almost a month.. but I needed to reply to this...

There are often posts similar to certain situations, but not always the same senario. I am someone who will sometimes go into chat when I am really worried about one of my rats, or something that I am doing, and will ask people for answers.
For example, when Wolf was really sick. I was stressing out badly over him, and needed an answer right then and there, I didn't want to go looking through posts on the forum. So I logged into chat because I seen some names that I knew would have some answers.
I don't mind when someone comes into chat and asks a question, they could be in a similar situation. Or even want to talk to someone directly instead of waiting for a reply.

Ah yes, but questions like "what kind of food should I be feeding" or "why is pine bad?" get to be pretty annoying.

Also, when someone comes into chat and asks a question, and then gets angry that no one has an answer.... well that's not entirely cool either.

Greetings!

I've tried to enter the chatroom a few times in the past few weeks but it keeps shutting down almost as soon as the screen comes up. Is anyone else experiencing this problem. Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks in advance,
dl

There is SOMETHING on my computer that chat doesn't agree with. I dont get error messages, it doesn't close, it just stops. If i try get on any website after that i gota reboot my computer for it to work. Im wondering if its IE or Vista? I originally thought it was Ventrilo and Warcraft but it happened when i had neither open the other day. Quite annoying, because i dont know if its just died or if its just lagging lol

Well.... I did recently (two months ago) wipe my system clean and reinstall, but I did think that I reinstalled to the former configurations... same anti-virus and OS (XP)as before...

:?

I always recommend that people try switching to Firefox as their browser, it often fixes the vast majority of chat issues for people, especially if you are getting kicked from the getgo or not getting through at all.

Ryelle, Vista is always the problem ;)

I did try it a long time ago and didn't have any problems.. but who knows now with all the conflicting obligatory updates?

I think RatShack ought to have a chat room if people want it! it's a fantastic thing for immediate feedback. Personally I find them them too quick-moving, I don't type that fast and like to mull things over before I put my thoughts 'on paper' so to speak. So I don't like them for yak, but that's just me, in a world of 'twitter' & both photos & thoughts going out immediately on cellphones I think immediacy is a desired thing.
I expect there's a lot of people who do like to use it, especially in the east when everyone's up at the same time and can wish each other 'good morning'.
And if there was anyone there last night for the emergency bleeding call it could have given major comfort of personal immediacy, feeling alone is the worst thing.
If it costs more than it's benefit then dump it. But I'm sure for some it's a nice start to the day, for other's it's a medication you don't need often but are grateful to have when you need it.

If I remember correctly, you had similar issues before. At that time, you said that you were only able to get into chat once you had added the site to your "anti-virus approved list". Since you reinstalled your OS and anti-virus program, you will probably need to add the forum to that list again. :D

I haven't been able to load the chat room for a bit now. I've been super busy, so I haven't gotten too overly concerned about it, but I would like to stop in and say hi sometime. It happened when I restarted my computer. I was chatting in the chatroom, restarted, now it won't load and I can't get back in. I have restarted a couple more time, and it doesn't change anything. Any ideas?
