Books for Rats?

I have two lovely ratties (Maggie and Cora), and I love making new things for their cage and I was wondering if books or book pages are okay for rats to have/chew/eat. I know that rats can have paper but I'm not sure if the ink will bother them.

I have been told that paper using vegetable die ink is safe to use

My only concern would be the ink. You would need to research the publishers and see what they use. My guys have loved their newspaper. Newspaper tears up easily and was carried all over the cage.
