    Behavior (personality?) change....

I've got two girls, sisters, just over a year old. As young rats, and until recently, Ruby was the dominant, much more outgoing, and just overall more everything. Opal was the submissive (had to feed her treats and watch because Ruby would just take them out of her mouth) but never any fighting...

    Play pen?

So for playtime right now we go in my bathroom which is okay but I’d like them to be able to be out playing more often even if I’m working in the kitchen or doing other things where I can’t sit with them the whole time. I live in a studio apt so they wouldn’t ever be out of sight. I tried the...

    Peeing on Me???

Okay so my dear darling problem child Ruby just HAS to pee on me during playtime. I take them out of their cage (mansion) and into the bathroom (our play area) and sit on the floor with them. Ruby always comes over, sits on my hand or arm and pees a little. Then 3 minuets later she comes back...

Thanks for the advice and reassurance that they aren't crazy. It is just so weird to me that their favorite thing in the world is.... kale. They love pumpkin...

All they want is Baby Kale

So my weird rats are obsessed with baby kale. I have two questions- first, is baby kale as nutritious for them as kale? I know kale is on the superfood list, so I'm glad they love it, but they much prefer baby kale. Second, seriously? I mean, strawberries, blueberries, seeds, baby cereal...

    Hello Everyone

Thanks for the warm welcome. I don't have many pictures of them (I know I need to get some) but here are a couple. The hand is one of my preschoolers from work (they are also class pets)

    Nail Trimming

No matter how many boxes and toys I have put during playtime I am my rats favorite climbing equipment. Which is great except their nails are making me look like I juggle razors for fun. Their breeder will clip their nails for a fee, but it would mean meeting with her every two weeks or so. I’m...

    Hello Everyone

Hi everyone! I’m a first time rat mommy and have two girls who are just over three months old. Opal and Ruby are the sweetest fluff balls I could ever ask for. I am also a preschool teacher and they are the class pets. They come home with me just about every day to rest and have play time. As...
