    Rat cage: yes or no?

I wouldn't do it -- looks to be in bad shape, and $70 could go towards a much nicer cage like a Critter Nation. Or haggle to get it lower. Should definitely not pay any more than $30-40 since it's in such bad condition.

New baby girl! What do I need to know?

Hi SQ and Jo! :) Thank you so much -- I've been working with her a lot and she is SO sweet. Loves to wrestle and play, and now she's starting to explore the cage a lot, and taking treats from my hand. I am smitten and now I'm picking her up and petting her a lot now that she's more comfortable...

New baby girl! What do I need to know?

Hi there :) I've had rats for about 3 years now and have just rescued a little feeder rat girl who Shelagh estimates to be about 7 weeks old or so. She weighs 180 g. She's beautiful and so very sweet, but she seems very different from my boys! I've noticed that she is very active, but doesn't...

    Siamese or Himalayan?

Update: Dexter & Orion are getting along well with Felix, and Dexter's colouring is becoming much more apparent. :D It's crazy how much they can change in just 2 weeks. I can remember how small Felix was at that size -- can't believe that was over 2 years ago... Sorry for the bad pictures --...

    Siamese or Himalayan?

AAT - So sorry -- I think I was posting at the same time as you and missed your message. Thank you so much - that was really helpful :) Shelagh - thank you! That is SUCH a cute photo :) and I'm so excited that my little guy is a Siamese, but it's so sad to think that he'll lose his colouring...

    Siamese or Himalayan?

Thanks Claireybell :) I'm really happy that they're getting along so well. Your boys sound hilarious ! It's amazing how much their personalities can vary even at such a young age! It's so adorable to watch them. Wherever one boy goes, the other follows, and they LOVE sleeping together in the...

    Siamese or Himalayan?

Hi there ! I just got an adorable pair of brothers :) One is a black berk and the other is either a Siamese or a Himalayan. He's got a slightly darker marking on his backside/tail area, and then a slightly dark on his nose, but overall he is a beige colour. When I looked it up, it...

Is it the 'New Home Sneezes'?

Maybe weigh them today, and then if they are still sneezing after a week, then weigh again to see if they have lost weight since then, or are combined with other symptoms by then? Hopefully they remain just dry sneezes, as LilSpaz says, and disappear within the week. :)

Is it the 'New Home Sneezes'?

I feel that it could still be "new home" sneezes. I would only get concerned if they are still sneezing after a full week of being in the new home, or present with the other signs you mentioned (porphyrin, wheezing, lethargy, weight loss, etc.). Porphyrin is pretty noticeable on the nose -- if...

    Update :)

Hi there :) I've been a long-time lurker of this very helpful forum. I'm thinking I'm going to try to post more often now. Hi everyone!! As you can see from my signature, it's been a busy and sad year for my rat pack. :( However, I have plans to get two new little furchildren in a couple...

    Felix ("Feely")

We adopted Felix on July 27th, 2014. He was one of an oops litter, and the person who was giving him away was unfortunately rather ignorant. He was only about 3.5 weeks when we took him home (he had been mixed up with his older siblings and given away too early). His birthday is June 29th...

    Timothy "Timmy" ("Teemy")

We adopted Timmy on March 27th, 2014. He was posted as a free rat on Kijiji because the owner's cat didn't like him. He was our very first rat, and we've had him for about 7 months now. I don't know exactly how old he is, but I made an estimate based on what the owner told me and the age that...
