    R.I.P. - Jewel (November 2018 - March 13, 2019) :(

Cowgirl is okay. She's happy when I'm home and let her out of the cage. But she is starting to get lonely. I will be rehoming her with member Lilspaz. I hope she will be happy there. I think the loss is starting to sink in for her because she has no other rats to interact with right now.

    R.I.P. - Jewel (November 2018 - March 13, 2019) :(

Jewel had to be put down this morning. She wasn't breathing well (gasping). She had a hunched back, was practically paralyzed, and her teeth were a bit disfigured. She was having trouble eating and swallowing as well. I had no choice. I will post what little pictures I have of her. This was a...

    R.I.P. - Heidi (June 2016 - March 11, 2019)

It is with great sadness that I had to let Heidi go today. She was a great rat and frankly, I saw her as my baby, my daughter. I love her so much. She was having some health issues. Two tumors (one on the neck and one behind the left paw). She also had a growth on her nose. She was having...

    Should She Be Put Down?

My sister's rat Violet has had this issue for a while. It only has gotten worse over time. She took her into the vet a while ago and the vet said it was a cyst. However, I think it's might be something worse like cancer or a malignant tumor. Warning: the pictures are a bit gross: The first 5...

    Heidi's Bump on Nose

Here is another picture. I don't think it's a cyst. I think it might be a wart.

    Carly October 20 2016 - October 28 2018

Sorry for your loss. I'm glad she was able to have a full life and feel the love of you and other rats. Amazing that she was able to still be okay growing up with that condition. She is in Heaven now.

    Henry Rollins

Sorry for you loss. I just lost my girl Zoe today of suspected PT. I saw your earlier post and was about to offer you the rest of my cabergoline. It cost me an arm and a leg but I was desperate. I fought hard with Zoe for a month but it just wasn't enough. Her time had come and I had to make...

What can I do? (PT or what is this?)

Sorry for your loss. My girl Zoe was PTS today over probably the same issue (PT). I know how you feel.

HELP! My rat Zoe is not well (possibly Pituitary Tumor (PT))

It was a very difficult decision. But sadly I had to put her down today. It wasn't easy and it's still not easy. I'm still grieving. I don't know what to do. My heart is aching.

    R.I.P. - Zoe (June 2016 - Nov 5th, 2018)

I had to euthanize Zoe today. She passed at around 4 pm. She was ready to go. She was fairly calm and relaxed. I almost feel like she could sense what was coming. I held her on the ride there and while at the vet's office and told her how much I loved her. Zoe fought hard for a month with PT...

HELP! My rat Zoe is not well (possibly Pituitary Tumor (PT))

I am having a very difficult and stressful time with Zoe. She's not happy and not eating enough. I have to force feed her and she hates it. And she still lost weight. She is now approximately 320 grams. The cabergoline, prednisone/baytril helped a bit with her unusual breathing, leaning on the...

    Heidi's Bump on Nose

Any ideas what this might be? Heidi has a bump on her nose and it won't go away. It's pink and round. The last time I took her to the vet they didn't know what it was. They said they could put her under anesthesia and try to remove it but I didn't want to put her under anesthesia. I'll post...

HELP! My rat Zoe is not well (possibly Pituitary Tumor (PT))

She is stabilized I would say but not symptom-free. I gave her the cabergoline on Wednesday evening. I would like to taper her off of the prednisone/baytril soon. However, she is still not eating much on her own. Whenever I give her food, she just eats a bit and then stops. I have feed her with...

HELP! My rat Zoe is not well (possibly Pituitary Tumor (PT))

She is currently on the prednisone and baytril. She feels better after each dose has kicked in and falls asleep. She is still leaning against edges and hanging her head over during the time that she would normally be sleeping. She is still able to sleep in normal positions though. She can...

    Creating your own rat food

Yes I give the Oxbow Regal Rat. They get whole grains, some seeds (pumpkin, sunflower, hemp, etc...), and vegetables in the evening.

    Creating your own rat food

So what would you replace the meat with? They are used to eating it. Can you give some meat alternative suggestions?

    Creating your own rat food

My rats eat very tiny bits of meat and egg. Isn't meat and eggs good once in a while? In the wild, don't they eat bugs and worms? Like eggs, I might give them a few specks of hard boiled egg the size of a dime once a week. The meat, I would only give them boiled organic chicken once a day in...

HELP! My rat Zoe is not well (possibly Pituitary Tumor (PT))

Yes those are my thoughts as well. I wasn't ready to just do it so suddenly. I didn't have enough time to process what was going on and I didn't feel like I had tried everything. I'm trying to be realistic and do the best for her. This will buy me some time to prepare for the inevitable...

HELP! My rat Zoe is not well (possibly Pituitary Tumor (PT))

After the dexamethasone injection, she's feeling better now. She perked up a bit and started eating on her own. Plus I gave her some Ensure with coenzyme Q10. Now she's actually able to relax and close her eyes to sleep. She even doesn't mind being cuddled and pet. I'm happy, even if it's...

HELP! My rat Zoe is not well (possibly Pituitary Tumor (PT))

She had the dexamethasone shot at 2:50 pm today. Hopefully I will see an improvement. I have a followup appointment tomorrow at 12 pm. If things have not improved then I have to decide what's best for her and may have to let her go.
