And to tell you how monumental this is I shall explain.

My first phone is a crazy basic phone called an LG Wink. When I got it I had to buy a phone to get the plan with Mobilicity. They gave me the floor model at a lower price, but told me after I bought it, that it was a returned phone. It was just a basic Talk/Text package for $39.55 a month due before the month started. The guy wrote down a PIN # for me, etc etc and off I went. Quickly I learned that the PIN# was wrong so I had no access to my online account, the password for my Voicemail was wrong so I couldn't get into it (it just filled up over the years). And even worse was the fact that the prior owner of my number had serious debt issues and collection agencies called constantly. They didn't believe that I wasn't or didn't know Schulz, and just kept calling. And they weren't the legit type of collection agency, they were the ones that break all the rules, and call 5-6 times a day every day except Sundays. Sigh. :/

I finally learned how to text last year but as everyone I "wrote" knows, I had to text "old school" with a keypad. If I wanted the actual number 2, I had to hit the key 4 times, and if I missed (often enough) I had to go all the way around again LOLOL. People would watch me text on the bus or streetcar and have this look on their face...OMG its like the Olden Days! I also complained of sore thumbs a LOT to the people I was texting..."can we save my thumbs and wait til I get home to continue this conversation online?" :laugh2:

So I could old-school text, I could answer calls....umm yeah that was it.

I had dreamed of smartphones but recently had to get upgraded phones for the people at work on our phone plan and it was a NIGHTMARE. They are all less technological than I am (I seem to be internal IT as I am pretty good with computers), and they all got Blackberries 10 O/S. They Had cheaper Blackberry 7's before and once they got their phones they were like "Shelagh, How do I open it up, how do I put the SIM card in, How, How, HOW??? I cannot get it to do this, or this, or this" I went online trying to figure it out, shrugged my shoulders and tried not to pull out my hair (unfortunately any nail growth that had happened was lost) :tongue2:

I hated all phones and was trying my darndest to avoid getting a new one. But then the phone really stopped holding a charge, started turning off, then started not turning on again...ARRGH. This phone is my cell and my landline so I finally said "enough, I am going to get a new phone!"

So off I went on my lunch yesterday and 20 mins later I am on an Unlimited Talk/Text/Data plan for only $5.25 more, a 2 year plan with a brand new Sony Xperia M phone.

Here you can see the difference between the 2

I printed out the 124 page manual, and will figure things out, but so far I can make calls, answer calls, text, add a contact, turn on the Walkman with its 5 sample songs (I only liked one so i just played it over and over again), used the FM radio once I discovered they GAVE me a ear buds, found a weather app that randomly popped up, then went away again?

My challenge this weekend is figuring this darn thing out, modifying it for me, and consistently being able to get places not just being surprised when I make it there LOLOL

Wish me luck! :toothy1:

I am no techno geek, but even I have muddled through downloading apps and using them, so you will do it with flying colours!
Today I am at a continuing education course, and if it hadn't been for my i-Phone and Google maps, I would still be driving around looking for the venue! LOL

Hehe, I smiled reading through the post. You're so cute! Hahahaha, just jump right into it and explore the phone! You can do it!

I remember my first phone, but I don't remember the model. I think I was 11 :O It wasn't a fancy phone though, just a basic one. I was so excited to move on to my first touchscreen phone which ended up drowning in my bag due to a bottle leak (SO SAD!).

I'm ready for a change too, gonna upgrade my Samsung S2 to either the S4 or iphone 5.

I have a dumb phone - no need for a smartphone! If I want to get on the computer I have a laptop.. I also have the hubby and his smartphone if I need anything. He wants me to get a smartphone, but I'm on the phone all day at work - I want nothing to do with phones when I get home. I can talk & text - perfectly happy with that! Besides that my phone is nice and tiny --- smartphones keep getting bigger and bigger!

Welcome to the 21st century, Shelagh! I finally got my mom to upgrade couple weeks ago...now she doesn't know why she waited so long. My dad still uses the old talk and text phone. He always will, and god help him when the day comes where they no longer make simple talk and text phones. He can't even text. As far as he got using computers was me showing him how to open his games and how to go online to olg site to check his lotto numbers. Sigh.

I have managed to upload all my usual phone contacts, still need to add email addresses to them, uploaded music files (Zero 7), created my first email, and changed my sounds etc options. WITH a blinding headache :p

Congratulations!
Now do you have a data plan? If not, make sure you turn the cellular network off and only use your wifi network at home.

Welcome to the club! It took me a while to learn all the possibilities of my smartphone, but now I am addicted. Always dreamed of one gadget that would do almost everything. I'm really away from home a lot during the week, so it's great to have access to email, the Shack, weather forecasts, Dropbox (for shared files), music, Facebook, and my Contacts. Oh, yes, and the Fitbit app, which synchronizes the gadget I wear on my right wrist (Fitbit Flex), which counts my steps and reminds me how much sleep I got.
Now you'll be able to post with Tapatalk instead of messing with Photobucket. :bliss:

I really wish that iPhones had an FM tuner. You've got a great phone.

You should sign in to gmail, the contacts from there will be imported into your phone. Then you can sync them with the phone numbers you already have and next time you switch phones, you shouldn't have to redo the contact list.

I agree with Victoria to add your google account to your phone it'll make it a lot more functional. Although you may have already done so as most phones get you do it in set up. Congrats on your new phone. You'll figure it all out yourself just by playing with it if your already tech savvy :)
That phone plan is awesome! I'm in Australia and we pay so much for not very much, there is no plan available with unlimited data at all here :-(
