Scardy Rat

Tobi is a scardy rat. He hides a lot. He lets you pet him a bit and he'll take treats by hand so he's not afraid of me. He doesn't really like to be picked up and will usually try to grab onto something around him. He's a a year now, and it hasn't really gotten better. Is there anything I can do to get him to calm down a bit?

You can try forced socialization, keeping him with you more. That might help make him more comfortable.
But some rats are like that, part of their character.
