I weigh everyone monthly (sometimes more), just to keep up with how they're doing. Here are the weights from tonight. I'm really quite happy with this weigh-in! The ones who needed to lose some weight did so, and the ones who needed to put some on did so also. :)

Nigel - 580 grams
Widdershins - 485 grams
Hazel - 410 grams
Russia - 460 grams
Squee - 445 grams
Polka - 475 grams
Emma - 330 grams
Fergie - 325 grams
Maddie - 370 grams
Faroe - 330 grams
Encephalon - 285 grams (growth spurt!)
Fyn - 220 grams (he's almost 5 months old - so tiny!)
Eva - 395 grams

And just so you can see the difference, here's what they weighed last month on 9.16.07

Nigel - 595 grams
Widdershins - 515 grams
Hazel - 445 grams
Russia - 455 grams
Squee - 455 grams
Polka - 495 grams
Emma - 345 grams
Fergie - 340 grams
Maddie - 375 grams
Faroe - 335 grams
Encephalon - 235 grams
Fyn - 215 grams
Eva - 430 grams

Hey Jo, post everyone's weights when you get done weighing them, I love seeing what other ratties weigh compared to mine :) For instance, on the rat community I'm part of on LiveJournal, a few members saw that I was calling Polka chubby at 475 grams, and so they told me how much their biggest boys weighed - one was nearly 900 grams!

Last time I weighed them was September 10th and today October 13th.

The nursing home:
Loki 41m 360 grams - 358 grams ~good weight maintained.
Flea 30m 372 grams - 350 grams ~weight loss, not good. Flea has PT. :(
Couscous 30m 310 grams - 298 grams ~ weight loss, not surprising she has myco.
Mielle 30m 290 grams - 267 grams ~weight loss do to myco/dyspnea.
Neela 30m 328 grams - 258 grams ~weight loss do to severe lung disease.
Pascal 31m 467 grams - 469 grams ~good weight maintained.
Vincent 31m 421 grams - 441 grams ~ good weight gain for age.
Dallas 29m 385 grams - 300 grams ~ weight loss due to severe lung disease.
Andy 29 m 415 grams - 420 grams ~ good weight maintained.
Simon 29m 407 grams - 450 grams ~ bulking up due to extra foods given to the sickies. But still a good weight for his age.
Archie 19m 570 grams - 600 grams ~ bulking up due to extra foods in the cage.
Fred 19m 503 grams - 504 grams ~ good or bad… good weight maintained but did not bulk up due to all the extra nummy foods in the cage. ?
Bobby 22m 530 grams - 530 grams ~ good weight maintained even though suffering from severe lung disease.

The lovers:

Radar 24m 459 grams - 472 grams ~ good weight gain for post surgery. (neuter)
Isabelle 17m 420 grams - 430 grams ~ some gain… but she’s a princess, she can do what she wants. ;) ….just kidding. Both Radar and Isabelle have been having extra nummies to encourage good intros.

The Dirty 10:

Sebastien 11m 465 grams - 458 grams ~ slight loss, will keep an eye on him, post surgery (neuter) but now in a rambunctious crazy dirty crew which could explain weight loss.
Cande 11m 300 grams - 288 grams ~good weight loss.
Sophie 11m 322 grams - 317 grams ~good weight.
Nessie 6m 258 grams - 264 grams ~ healthy weight growth.
Jorge 6m 372 grams - 400 grams ~healthy weight growth.
Rylee 6m 363 grams - 379 grams ~healthy weight growth.
Davis 6m 381 grams - 410 grams ~healthy weight growth.
Captain 4m 294 grams - 310 grams ~healthy weight growth.
Boo 3m 202 grams - 333 grams ~healthy weight growth.
Treat 3m 215 grams - 338 grams ~health weight growth.

580 grams?? Holy Sh** that's a HUGE rat!

My biggest tops out at like 380 I think that's what it was last vet check

My Archie is at 600 grams right now. He is a big guy, not obese yet.
But I don't have much choice. He resides in the nursing home and I can't pull him away from his buddies and I have to free feed higher fat foods to the sick/old ones.

I JUST saw that!

WOW you guys! What are you feeding them?! LOL

ooo...should I be feeding higher fatty foods to strider with his back end degeneration thing?

My vet has always told me that if only we could keep all our ratties thin until they reach 20+ months or if they become ill, then start them up on high fat diet, but keep the protein low. I would give Strider a higher fat diet.

how do you guys weigh your rats?
I want to weigh my guys but I don't have a scale, It's Chimo I want to weigh because I know he's lost weight, at the vet's the last time he was 414g at 6 months but he looks thinner now :( it might be his constant use of his spinner :)
Coal was about 420g but he looks fine, they are 10 months old :D

I bought a postal scale on eBay for only $16 shipped! :) I love it.

Jo - just out of curiosity, do you have weights on your rats from before you started the low-fat/-protein diet? I think that'd be interesting to see!

Just went through my journal... I can't exactly remember when I switched over to just blocks but..

Back in Feb 04...

Niko 650 grams
Lex 730 grams
Oliver 683 grams
Sully 705 grams
:wasnt:
