Rats changing color

Is it normal for rats coats to change as they grow? Both my rats coats are getting brown/red places in their black fur. Candy's rump is now brown. This isn't do to lack of something in there diet is it?

how old are your girls? It sounds like normal rusting to me

It's called rusting, it has to do with poor genetics (nothing to be concerned over however). There is also silvering where the fur starts to look silver.

For younger males this can also be due to buck grease.

They are maybe 8 months.

Girly,the rattie we rescued from a snake has too started changing her black to dark brown.She is around 8 month too.
I'm not too concern by that as she is fed a well balance diet.
