I posted this on the end of another thread I had made in health but thought I would post it here too....

Unfortunately one of my rats, Freya, had to be PTS today :( :(

Flora is my one remaining rat, she is of the same age (2.5years) I don't want her to be alone but I wanted to have male rats one my girls passed on. I don't really want to rush out and buy new animals but I am worried for Flora being on her own.

As she would be above the breeding age, would it be OK to introduce 2x baby male rats? Or at her age would it be better to just leave her be and try and give her as much company ourselves?

Any advice would be much appreciated

The problem is that we really don't know when or if a female rat ever become infertile after a certain age. I've seen rats become pregnant at 2! It's very dangerous at that age. So honestly, unless your little boys are neutered, I wouldn't risk it. Any rat rescues around you? Could you foster and older female for Flora?
