I just adopted my first rat a couple days ago, and I am very concerned about him. He doesn't seem to be eating much, and he is sleeping a lot. There's a build-up of porphyrin around his nose and I am starting to get very worried.

He seems to be very nervous, I did just move him to a new cage and I'm not sure he's used to it yet. His previous owners had him on seed mix and table scraps, while I am giving him extrusion and rat treats.

Can I get some tips, especially on calming him down?

It's very common for a rat to become skittish when moved to a new cage, also I've noticed that at around 3 months they seem to be more aware of the world around them and become naturally fearful.
Does your rat have a buddy? They really do need a same sex buddy to keep them company, to feel more secure and happy.
Also, spend a lot of time with your little guy, take him out several times a day and keep him with you.
