Here is a paper written about off label use of Revolution in exotic pets.

http://www.jarvm.com/articles/Vol5Iss3/Beck%2087-96.pdf

The only thing is it gives the recommended dose as "1 drop from a 15 mg pipette". I'm not sure how much revolution that is (and does anyone even stock 15mg pipettes??), but hopefully a vet would understand...

Anyway this may be helpful to show vets that are still reluctant to use Revolution on our ratty friends!

Excellent! Thank you so much for that link.
I usually use ivermectin, it does have a higher safety margin than Revolution but I still prefer the ease of use of Revolution.
My vet is not too keen on Revolution only because there has not been any real documented use on it. ...until now! :D

My vet told me once when I was concerned I may have overdosed my littlest rat with Revolution that you can usually give 5 - 10x the therapeutic amount before any toxic effects. Not, of course, that it is recommended to do so or to dose willy nilly!

She prescribed ivermectin for me originally and only started prescribing revolution when the ivermectin failed to work.

I wonder if the phrase "15 mg pipette" is a typographical error. Pipettes measure liquid volume, so "15 ml pipette" would make more sense.

Thanks for the article! My vet uses Revolution on my rats, with great success, but he would probably enjoy seeing the article.

Ya, that's what I read, 10x for Revolution and 100x for Ivermectin.

I think its supposed to be the other way around?

What is the LD50? (lethal dose to 50% of population - this dose is typically available for lab animal species upon which the product has been tested. It is expressed in milligrams of drug per kilogram of animal body weight. The higher the number, the less toxic the product is).

Revolution: Oral LD50 >1600 mg/kg in rats

from http://msds.farnam.com/m001117.htm
Ivermectin: LD 50 Rat, oral 50 mg/kg

I will stick with Revolution when I can get it.

I have this pdf printed to fax off to the vet, as I am trying to get her to prescribe us some revolution for the ratters for mites.

My vet thinks its only good for the ear mites and not the mange type ones.

Any other info any of you suggest passing on to the vet to support my Revolution plea??
