I've read in multiple places about people using Tupperware containers in their cages. However I've always thought that plastic wasn't safe for rats. I'm going to be getting my first set of ratties soon. And I want to make sure I don't put anything in their cage that is harmful.

Rats may chew plastic but they don't generally ingest it. Anything you put in their cage can and will be chewed on. Wood huts, plastic igloos, chew treats...you put it in there, they will chew it. I have never had an issue with them chewing their plastic huts.
