Hair Colour Change

This question came up in a facebook group I belong to. Does anyone know?

This is probably quite trivial, but i've noticed that my female berkshire dumbo rat has had a change in hair colour. She's always been a very dark brown colour, but recently the fur on her lower back has started to turn a light brown. I was just wondering if anyone knew the reason for this and if its a sign of ill health. I feed her Burgess Excel rat food, which my other rat eats, and she seems fine.

If the girl is a baby she is molting. If the girl is older she is rusting

It's really fascinating to watch on the lighter colors, too. My beige girl Penn has had interesting patterns pop up from the darker and lighter fur. For a while there, it looked like she had a fawnish colored saddle. Very neat!
