Getting rats to like each other?!

Hello Everyone!
About a week ago I had lost one of my rats to a dog, it was very upsetting to me and I think to her sister as well.
I know rats do best in pairs so I am getting her a new rat buddy, but I am very unsure of how to put them with each other.I dont want to have any fights or anything!
Do I let them meet outside of there cage? Do I hae to wash everything to make a clean smell?
I dont know!
So what should I do??

Hi and welcome.
I'm so sorry of your loss, it must have been horrifying...

Getting a buddy is always a good idea. She will need her own cage to begin with. I would do intros on neutral ground at first and then proceed from there, depending on how well they do together. Before adding the new girl to the "main" cage, it should be scrubbed down to remove all scent of the other rats.
