So recently I've been giving my rats A LOT of food grade cardboard and paper for chewing, shredding, and nesting. That means that the cardboard or paper is meant for holding food directly. Although I don't have a strong source, I believe it is safer for rats than your average shipping box (not to mention those can get dirty after they go through the mail!). Also, my rats LOVE some of the items I'm about to list
Here's a list of food grade cardboard/paper that I've come up with. Feel free to suggest more!
-Paper straws - fun for chewing
-Paper cupcake holders - one of my rats' favorite shredding materials
-Cardboard oatmeal containers (emptied) - makes a great rat tunnel
-Paper cups (I prefer them without the wax) - makes a great fold-up treat container
-Paper plates (haven't tried these yet, but they would work)
-Paper bowls (another one I haven't tried)
Thanks for reading
